What is Thermage?
Thermage is a procedure that uses radio frequency technology which delivers deep intense heat without harming the skin surface, for treating aging and sun-damaged skin.
How Does Thermage work?
Thermage uses radio frequency energy to penetrate the deep layers of the skin which causes an uniform heating effect to the deep dermis. The heat reduces wrinkles and achieves skin tissue tightening as a result of the collagen contraction. The result is a more youthful appearance to the sagging skin.
Is Thermage painful to administer?
Thermage produces a brief sensation of intense heat in the skin but is not generally painful. An anesthetic cream is applied before the procedure which helps alleviate any patient discomfort.
The applicator device monitors the surface temperature of the skin and applies a cooling spray to prevent any burning during the procedure.
How long does a Thermage procedure take?
Treatments usually take less than an hour, depending upon the size of the area to be treated. An anesthetic cream is applied approximately an hour prior to the procedure, so overall everything is generally completed in two hours or less.
Are there any special preparations or follow-up regimes?
Unlike a typical surgery, there is no need to interrupt any medications or change your eating lifestyle before a Thermage treatment. You can return to normal activities immediately following the procedure. However, some patients exhibit a superficial blistering or temporary redness which may last a few hours after treatment but there is usually no swelling or bruising.
When will someone see results?
In most patients, results will appear over a gradual period of 2-6 months, although some patients may see an earlier response.
How many treatments will someone need?
A single treatment can typically produced good results in a significant number of patients. However, Dr. Bootstaylor will assess the number and frequency of treatments required to achieve the optimal results for someone’s skin.
How long will the effects of a Thermage procedure last?
Published studies show that improvements continue for at least six months after a single Thermage treatment session. Other studies have show that Thermage treatments can last several years, depending on the rate of the aging process.
How safe is Thermage?
Thermage is considered very safe. Although it is possible that some skin damage can occur as a result of the heat, this advanced treatment has been studied carefully in hundreds of patients with minimal reports of lasting adverse effects.
